despite popular belief i can actually draw quite well when i want to. now digitally colored! hooray for art skool.


in the past five days i have gone from never hearing of the teenagers to total smitten obsession. i bought their cd from the other music online store on a whim. Then Saturday night i saw the video for 'love no' on new york noise. later that evening i see they are playing a show on Monday. I buy a ticket on impulse. I call vic, she wants to go. She talks to Thang, he wants to go. We all go to see the Teenagers Monday night. by this time i have been listening to their cd nonstop, at fist because my ipod is broken and i just had burned their cd off of my computer. But then i kept listen out the expedentially growing love of each listen. At the show the three of us end up front and center of the stage. Before the opening act we gush about how pretty they all are. Thang says i can have Dorian, their asian guitarist. I say i would lovingly take any of them. Even their super french female tour drummer. They go on stage and we all start making doe eyes while shouting the chorus. We are surrounded by hipsters so no one is dancing as excitedly as us. As i am dancing and shouting "I'm not in love i'm not in love i;m not in love with yoouuuuuu" i look over at Dorian and he looks back. Next song he comes right in front of me and my friends and vic says "Look Katie he is playing for you! he totally is". It was the combination of this, and when Quentin accidentally hit me in the face with his mic cable and felt bad so he started doing a little gig while giving me the thumbs up; that planted the sick unhealthy seed of obsession. I mean how could i resist, they are french and good looking and goofy on stage and all have thick black glasses. so now i have been drawing pretty french boys all day. photo bucket made that file look wonky, it looks so much better that that. booo photobucket. never mind i fixed it. i dont useally draw from such posed photographs, but i did not like any of the candid ones i could find. well i mean i have some but they arent finshed drawings, just doddles in my sketch book. i am a nerd.

i am convinced i need to move to France. it has a great cartooning scene, like people are making real money over there, and its filled with talented bands fronted by cute guys who will play their guitars at me. Although i guess to them i would just be another American cunt.

A few weeks ago i was assigned by my Myth and Symbol class to create a Vanitas to be due today.

Defintion from Wkipedia:

In the arts, vanitas is a type of symbolic still life painting commonly executed by Northern European painters in Flanders and the Netherlands in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The term vanitas itself refers to the arts, learning and time. The word is Latin, meaning "emptiness" and loosely translated corresponds to the meaninglessness of earthly life and the transient nature of vanity. Ecclesiastes 1:2 from the Bible is often quoted in conjunction with this term. The Vulgate (Latin translation of the Bible) renders the verse as Vanitas vanitatum omnia vanitas. The verse is translated as Vanity of vanities; all is vanity by the King James Version of the Bible, and Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless by the New International Version of the Bible.
Paintings executed in the vanitas style are meant as a reminder of the transience of life, the futility of pleasure, and the certainty of death, encouraging a sombre world view.
Common vanitas symbols include skulls, which are a reminder of the certainty of death; rotten fruit, which symbolizes decay like ageing; bubbles, which symbolize the brevity of life and suddenness of death; smoke, watches, and hourglasses, which symbolize the brevity of life; and musical instruments, which symbolize brevity and the ephemeral nature of life. Sometimes a vanitas will also include picture a young woman at a vanity or looking in a mirror, while a skeleton or hag looms behind her.


needless to say i totally forgot about the assignment. So yesterday (or i guess today) at two a.m i scribble out this:

i have never heard of the band that had thirteen to sixteen year olds lined up around the block; wearing their purple and white graphic striped hoodies and black flat ironed hair.


i just used google to look up what "ftw" stood for.


i think i have just hit the beginning of sort being and defiantly feeling old.

bet none of you knew what my hair really is supposed to look like. Naturally my hair gets darker in the winter and blonde in the summer. But i haven't seen that hair in like.....5 years....so this is the closet it has been in awhile. WOOSSSH aren't i boring.

you know the drill. its the annual spring cold kick off. too much work, too little motivation, cadbury egg coma, grease ball, tri colored hair shit storm, stoned on dayquil, procrastinating and drawing muppets. the usual.

if you haven't figured it out yet, i saw Justice live tonight. And it totally for truly true blew my mind. I hate theatre shows, where its not general admissions, and you have an assigned seat. So i thought this was going to be wonky. But no. The whole place was dancing. EVERYONE. DANCED. As Justice commanded us so from their techno speaker throne. They Head bang and throw up their sillouetted arms and the entire place went insane. I used to think you had to be right up by the stage to truly experience a band. I was wrong. Justice got the whole place bouncing from the pit to the nose bleed seats. When they first revealed their ginormous dj set up; mountains of amps on either side with a giant glowing cross in the middle; I couldn't tell if i felt like they were the dark horse of the apocalypse or here to save us. If you ever have a chance to see them its worth it, no matter where you are sitting. After that set i was willing to drop out of school and have a million babies between the two of them. It made me wish i never gave up my little dj fantasy i had in eighth grade.


I feel like i have had some sort of religious experience.


Or maybe i just wet myself.

hey we totally placed! I mean yeah it was third place, but considering the amount of talent there and our standards for a good show is that all of our equipment works and my butt doesn't get exposed, id say it was a pretty rad show!.
